This is a copy and link to the details of The Valentine Macaulay Bursary Fund.
The Valentine Macaulay Bursary Fund has been established to provide financial assistance for early career researchers to attend the IGF and Insulin System in Physiology and Disease Conference, at the Ventura Beach Marriott in California, United States, from 16 to 21 March 2025.
Valentine (Val) Macaulay spent many years of her illustrious career at Oxford, completing her postdoctoral clinical training here before establishing her own lab group at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM), focusing on IGF biology. She went on to obtain a CRUK Senior Fellowship and HEFCE Senior Clinical Lectureship, amongst many other achievements.
As a group lead, Val was hands-on and developed the careers of countless students to independence. She was a strong advocate for women in academia, encouraging them to find their voice, be assertive and ready to delegate.
Val had a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers, and it was her particular goal to ensure that underprivileged scientists would have the opportunity to attend the IGF and Insulin System in Physiology and Disease Conference, which she was due to Co-Chair, regardless of financial constraints.
Please help us raise our target of $11,000 (roughly £8,600) which will fully fund five bursary places (or partially fund 10, depending on application numbers) to attend the conference.
The bursaries will be administered by the Organising Committee for the IGR Conference, within Gordon Research Conferences (GRC). Any additional monies raised will be used to support students working on IGF signalling and administered by the IGF Society.
A gift to the appeal can be made online via the Oxford University Development Offices webpages. Thank you for your support.
